WebKite Blog

Periodically we publish thoughts and ideas about he state of the web and the state of structured data publishing. Topics range from small business marketing to cost efficient advertising.

Refreshed Designs and Global Currency

We’ve just released version 1.0.5 of our WordPress plugin into the wild. With it comes a number of new updates and improvements to the design and globalization of WebKite for WordPress.

In our support forum, we’ve heard requests for the ability to add different currencies. Now, the currency symbol you use with the values in the column of your data will be reflected in the list output on your WordPress site.

This gives you the flexibility to list prices in “$,” “€,” “¥,” or any other type of currency.

In addition to that change, we’ve made a number of visual improvements to four of our list types. You can see a short preview below.

Review Index Excerpts

In the refreshed review index, you can now add a review excerpt to your items. This gives more context to your index of reviews and a teaser to entice visitors to click through.

2-Column Food Menu

To better highlight items on a food menu, we’re introducing a 2-column layout. It’s more in line with a traditional menu, giving your users a familiar format to browse and filter menu items.

New Layouts for Wine Menu

We’ve updated the landscape layout and added the option of a portrait layout to the wine menu. This new layout surfaces key information and gives you the option to showcase wine labels. See a sample of the portrait menu below.

Descriptions for Beer Lists

Not only did the beer list receive an updated look, but we’ve also added a new details column; you can now include beer descriptions. This is perfect for making recommendations or elaborating on the flavor of the beer.
Any new lists created after this update will automatically have these upgrades. Updating a current list to take advantage of the changes is as easy as creating a new list and copying and pasting your data over to a new spreadsheet. Then, replace the short code with the new short code and you’re in business. And business, in this case, is publishing filterable & sortable content.

We’re always working to make WebKite for accessible and versatile to help you publish more dynamic content. WebKite for WordPress is great for organizing and displaying reviews in WordPress, publishing a wine list in WordPress, building a beer list in a WordPress page, or building a restaurant menu in WordPress.

Inventory-based advertising is a better way to advertise

Since we're generating specific ads based on a business' inventory, ads are only shown to customers that are ready to buy those products.

This mitigates waste and ensures that you only get clicks that have a better chance of leading to a sale. Inventory-based ads help you skip past the bartering and get right to the sale. Meaning you can spend less time maintaining ads and more time taking care of your business.
